Personal chefs revive home cooking

About 9,000 personal chefs are working in the United States, according to estimates from the American Personal Chef Association, and the Ozarks boasts several.

Among them is Dixie Lee Hart, who opened Dixie’s Country Cookin' in 2005, offering her culinary skills to clients in their homes.

“On cooking day I go get the groceries, bring them in, cook everything up according to what their menu selections were, package everything up in containers and label them with cooking instructions, and leave them with a nice, clean kitchen,” Hart said. “All they have to do is reheat them and have a nice meal.”

The APCA predicts that busier lifestyles, an increasing senior population and health concerns such as obesity and diabetes will result in more than 20,000 personal chefs in America in the next five years.
