General contractor Morelock-Ross Builders is building a bank branch at 2911 E. Sunshine St., west of the Highway 65 and Sunshine intersection.
According to a building permit on file with the city of Springfield, Springfield-based Slone Architects PC designed the facility, which has an estimated construction value of $600,000.
The location was chosen in part because of an existing base of customers from that area, according to Robin Rees, assistant vice president of marketing for Peoples Bank of the Ozarks.
“We (also) felt that it was a good, centralized location for us to expand into the Springfield metro market,” she said.
The Sunshine branch will be the 12th for the privately held bank, which was founded in 1917. The bank’s first Springfield branch is located at 3000 W. Republic Road. Peoples Bank of the Ozarks also has locations in Clever, Fordland, Forsyth, Fremont Hills, Kimberling City, Nixa, Ozark and Rogersville.
Construction on the East Sunshine facility is to be finished in the spring.
“We are definitely continuing to look for opportunities in Springfield, and hope that as time goes on, we can expand our footprint in that area,” Rees said. Peoples Bank offers online banking and bill pay, as well as a remote-deposit capture option, but Rees said those don’t replace the need for physical branches.
“Time after time, when surveys are done, convenience of location is still the top reason people are picking banks. The numbers on that are going down a little as Internet banking and bill-pay options and those types of things are offered, but still, the brick-and-mortar locations are why people pick their bank,” she said.
Peoples Bank of the Ozarks’ East Sunshine branch will have eight to 10 employees, some of whom will be transferred from the bank’s other locations.
Rees said Gary Lewis, a senior lender with Peoples Bank of the Ozarks, will work from the East Sunshine location, as well as another lender, Crystal Hartin, and Sandy Lipe, lending assistant. [[In-content Ad]]
