Accounting

Susan E. Lyon has joined Baird, Kurtz & Dobson, CPAs, as an intern with the company's benefits team. She assists with employee benefit plan administration services. Lyon is a student at SMSU, majoring in accounting. She is to graduate in August.

Pamela G. Phillips has joined Baird, Kurtz & Dobson, CPAs, as a staff consultant in BKD's health care group. She provides reimbursement consulting for health care facilities. Phillips is a 1996 graduate of Drury College with a bachelor of science in accounting. She has four years' experience as a staff accountant for a hospital system.

Engineering

Mel Eakins, PE, has joined Great River Engineering Inc. as a senior civil engineer. He is responsible for the engineering on stormwater, sanitary sewer, site development and general civil projects. Eakins received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1993, and he spent several years in Chicago designing hydroelectric, navigation and flood-control projects. For the past two years he has been working as a civil engineer in southwest Missouri.

Lonnie Ezell has joined the staff of Great River Engineering Inc. as a design technician. Ezell has six years of civil engineering technician experience. He works on projects in the land development department.

Patrick Nicholson has joined the staff of Great River Engineering as a technician. He has five years of civil engineering technician experience, and he works on commercial and residential land development projects.

Financial

Ann-Marie Shy has joined the firm of Salomon Smith Barney, a member of Citigroup, as a financial consultant. Shy has successfully completed the NASD Series 7, 63 and 65 exams, along with advanced training in Chicago, Ill., and Hartford, Conn. Shy has four years of experience in mutual funds and three years of direct sales experience.

Media

Jackson Tough has been named station sales manager at KXUS. He has worked several years for Sunburst Media. He is responsible for designing and implementing marketing strategies for KXUS advertisers.

Retail

Steve Jett has been hired as Loftis Jewelry & Pawnbrokers' in-house jeweler. He has been a designer and bench jeweler since 1972. He custom crafts fine jewelry and does diamond setting and jewelry repairs.

Technology

Michael T. Lofaro, a Novell-certified engineer, heads the management team at KPM Technology LLC, a new company developed by Kirkpatrick, Phillips & Miller, CPAs, to meet the system needs of large and small companies. Lofaro has eight years of experience in solving data processing and network needs.

Kay Steinman was named instructor at New Horizons Computer Learning Centers. She instructs a number of courses including Microsoft, Corel, Lotus and the Internet. Steinman formerly maintained extensive computer controlled databases with L3 Communications and instructed on equipment and software for eight years.

Janet Bruegner has joined New Horizons Computer Learning Centers as instructor. She will teach Microsoft, Corel, Lotus and the Internet. Bruegner previously worked with two local law firms and has more than 15 years' experience in applications software knowledge and instruction.
