Debbie Brown has joined Newkirk Design Group, an advertising and design firm, as an account executive. She studied business at William Jewell College in Liberty and received her degree in marketing and advertising from SMSU. Brown has more than nine years of experience in financial services, customer relations and sales. She also has some management experience. As an account executive with Newkirk, Brown will be responsible for the administration of gaining new business, maintaining current customer relationships and providing marketing assistance for the company.

Connie Welden has joined Vatterott College as an admissions coordinator. She holds a bachelor's degree in marketing and a master's degree in communications from Memphis State University. Welden's responsibilities will include evaluating prospective students and recommending suitable applicants to the campus director for admission. She will also provide career advising and information about Vatterott College to prospective students.

Sandi Tolley has joined Union Planters Financial Services as an investment officer. Tolley has 15 years of experience helping people make investment decisions. Prior to joining Union Planters, she worked as an investment officer in Florida for Barnett Bank and Dean Witter. Tolley is a licensed Series 7 agent, trained in the sale of stocks, bonds, mutual funds and annuities. Tolley is located at Union Planters Bank, 3271 E. Battlefield.

Camilla Marshall has been named director of marketing for LIFE Benefits Inc. in Joplin. Marshall has 12 years of experience in hospital and corporate marketing and public relations. Most recently, she worked as director of marketing and public relations for Freeman Health System. She also spent nine years as president of Dunhill Professional Search in Lenexa, Kan. The main focus of LIFE is mortgage financing, but the company also offers consumer loans, vehicle financing, debt consolidation and negotiable rates for real estate fees, and various types of insurance.

Sharon Terry, CPA, has been named vice president and administration/operations officer of Metropolitan National Bank. She also serves as a controller for the bank, overseeing the accounting department. Previously, Terry worked for a public accounting firm, and she also established her own practice in Marshfield. She is a graduate of SMSU. Terry's office is located at 600 S. Glenstone in Springfield.

M J Kelly Company has announced the promotion and addition of employees in its underwriting department:

Susan Altman has been promoted to vice president of underwriting in the transportation division. She has 20 years' experience in the insurance industry, with more than 16 of those in E & S experience. Altman completed her CPCU in 1995, earned the designation of certified professional insurance woman in 1997 and completed her ASLI in 1998.

Lori Drake has rejoined M J Kelly as vice president of underwriting in the property and casualty division. She has been in the insurance industry for 11 years and is working on her CPCU and ASLI designations.

Sandra Shue has been promoted to vice president of underwriting in the brokerage division. She has 28 years of experience in the insurance industry, and has been with M J Kelly since 1993.

Gary Spurrier has joined M J Kelly as a personal lines underwriter. He has 26 years of experience in personal lines underwriting. Spurrier has earned the designations of CIC, CPIM, AAM and AU. He has also completed three of the four INS courses.

Larry Jansen, certified insurance counselor, has joined the commercial lines department at PJC Insurance. Jansen has more than 17 years' experience in commercial insurance sales. He holds a master's degree in counseling from Southeast Missouri State University. Jansen is working toward certification as a chartered property casualty underwriter.

Jennifer C. Huxley has been promoted to president of TELEC Inc. She has been with the company since its inception in 1976. Prior to her promotion, Huxley served as vice president.
