|bold_on|Jim Herrmann, manager of operations programs support for the Mid-America District, was named Springfield Post Office officer-in-charge following the retirement of Postmaster Robert W. Roberts. Herrmann is responsible for managing the collection and delivery of mail in Springfield and for the Springfield processing and distribution center. Herrmann joined the Postal Service in 1987; since 1992 he has served as manager, operations programs support. He holds a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Iowa.|ret||ret||tab|

|bold_on|Robert W. Roberts, Springfield postmaster, retired after more than 40 years of service to the United States Postal Service. He began his career in 1960 as a clerk in St. Louis and has since served in various positions in locations across the country. Prior to his appointment as Springfield's postmaster in 1996, Roberts served as Midwest area manager, sales, in St. Louis. He has been with the company since 1979 and has served in numerous positions, most recently as vice president of finance, secretary and assistant treasurer.
