Kent Thomas, who served as acting chancellor at Southwest Missouri State University-West Plains, was named permanent chancellor on April 19.|ret||ret||tab|

The Board of Governors unanimously approved Thomas, whose selection came after a six-month national search.|ret||ret||tab|

Thomas had split time between the chancellor position at SMSU-West Plains and serving as vice president for administrative services at SMSU in Springfield. |ret||ret||tab|

Greg Burris, associate vice president for administrative services and chief information officer, will serve as acting vice president while a national search is conducted for that position.|ret||ret||tab|

Thomas will be paid a salary of $103,902 and his contract will include the following: use of chancellor's residence; a vehicle; membership to the West Plains Country Club; and complimentary tickets to all West Plains campus events. His moving expenses also will be covered.|ret||ret||tab|

Thomas was named SMSU's vice president for administrative services in August 1998 following a 24-year career in the U.S. Army. He retired as a colonel.|ret||ret||tab|

Dana Stahl was named street superintendent by the city of Republic. The primary focus of his job is to plan, supervise, direct and coordinate the reconstruction, maintenance and repair of streets and alleys in the city. |ret||ret||tab|

Stahl served as the public works director in Springdale, Ark., for seven years where he supervised a staff of 50 and was responsible for more than 250 miles of streets.|ret||ret||tab|

Stahl received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Mem-phis State and has 25 years experience in civil engineering.|ret||ret||tab|

Stahl is certified by the International Municipal Signal Association in Level I Traffic Signals, Level II Signs and Markings, and Work Zones, and is a member of the American and Arkansas public works associations.|ret||ret||tab|

Greg Chadwell has been named the community development director of the city of Republic's newly formed community development department.|ret||ret||tab|

The department is responsible for planning, marketing, public information, media relations, economic development and overall development of the community.|ret||ret||tab|

Chadwell previously serviced as director of community services. He earned his bachelor of science degree in political science at SMSU and received his master of public administration degree from SMSU in 2000.|ret||ret||tab|
