PayPal partners with bitcoin processors

Posted online
PayPal and its parent company eBay announced Tuesday a partnership with bitcoin processors BitBay, Coinbase and GoCoin, according to Forbes.

The partnership will allow certain merchants to accept the cryptocurrency for digital goods exclusively, including online games and downloadable songs, Forbes reports.

PayPal users will not be able to store bitcoins in their online wallets, but the new partnership will allow PayPal merchants to handle bitcoin processing.

Scott Ellison, senior director of corporate strategy at PayPal, told Forbes that this announcement could be considered “a test” that’s been five months in the making.

PayPal will receive a fee from the bitcoin processors for every referral and the feature will initially be available exclusively to North American businesses.
