Payne Stewart reminder of hero shortage

At the time of the tragic death of Springfield native golfer Payne Stewart. so much local and national media attention was devoted to this awful event that little was left for the Rusty Saber to add.

The story has since haunted my thoughts. Mostly I have wondered about the immense media coverage the story received. I understood the outpouring of grief portrayed by the Springfield media, which was to be expected. Payne Stewart was a local boy who made good. He was a world-class golfer. Although he and his wife and children lived in Florida, Springfield was his hometown[[In-content Ad]]
