Gov. Mike Parson last week announced the appointment of southwest Missouri Judge Jack Goodman to a higher post.
Goodman, of Monett, was tapped for the Missouri Court of Appeals' Southern District, according to a news release. He succeeds the retiring Judge Daniel Scott.
Goodman moves to the Court of Appeals from the Lawrence County Circuit Court, where he serves as presiding judge.
Parson earlier this month was submitted three finalists for Scott's position from the Appellate Judicial Commission, according to a separate news release. Christian County Judge Laura Johnson and Judge David Dolan, of Mississippi and Scott counties in Missouri’s Bootheel, were the other two.
The commission conducted four hours of public interviews, two hours of deliberations and seven rounds of balloting to come up with the finalists, according to the release.
The Southern District of the Missouri Court of Appeals is located in the John Q. Hammons Building in Springfield, according to its website. It presides over 44 southern Missouri counties.
Two candidates are vying for a seat being vacated by term-limited Springfield Mayor Ken McClure, who is serving his fourth and final two-year term.
