Gov. Mike Parson called a special session, requiring legislators to return to Jefferson City on July 27.
Parson specifically wants to target violent crime in the session through a crackdown on illegal gun sales, stronger punishment for children who use weapons and other measures.
”We cannot continue to let violent criminals destroy our cities and get away with it,” he said.
