Parkview to kick off second reconstruction phase

Posted online
Parkview High School will hold a groundbreaking Wednesday morning to kick off work on the second phase of the school’s reconstruction.

The $10 million project is expected to take a little more than a year to complete, according to Springfield Public Schools.

The school’s west wing will receive new interior finishes and ground-floor renovations for additional classrooms. There will be eight general classrooms, an art classroom, special education classrooms, offices, a new library media center with more than twice the current space for computer training, and a new cafeteria and kitchen that will nearly double the current capacity.

In the south wing, 12 new classrooms and two new science labs will replace current classrooms.

The project is funded by a $96.5 million bond initiative approved by voters in April 2006.

The first phase of reconstruction at Parkview was completed in 2006. That project, which also cost $10 million, was funded by a 2003 bond initiative.

After the second phase is complete, 90 percent of the original 50-year-old school will have been replaced or renovated.[[In-content Ad]]
