The 207-acre park, slated to open in the spring and funded by the 1/4-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2001, focuses on the property’s existing barn and the study of agricultural activities. Phase I of the development, expected to cost about $2 million, includes construction of a new barn and displays of early 20th-Century farm equipment and tools. Wilson’s Creek runs through the park, which will also include a farm pond, a themed playground and more than 20 acres of native prairie.
Officials also christened the unique farm project by digging pitchforks into hay bales.
