The Springfield-Greene County Park Board will hold a 10 a.m. dedication ceremony Friday at the complex, 2331 E. Pythian St.
A 49,000-square-foot addition to the complex is finished – six weeks ahead of schedule – and has six new indoor tennis courts, mezzanine viewing level, meeting room, aerobics room, training room, office/ticket sales area, restrooms, breezeway, storage rooms and an elevator.
The complex also underwent an extensive exterior upgrade, including new concrete walks, landscaping, a bicycle rack and an 80-spot parking lot.
Locker rooms in the existing facility also were renovated with new ceiling tile, lighting, lockers, wall and floor tile, countertops, lavatories, doors, paint and restroom partitions.
“The expansion reflects the growth of tennis in Springfield and the surrounding region, and the addition will better serve the numerous national tournaments we host, along with providing more time for lessons, leagues and open court time,” said Parks Director Jodie Adams in a news release.
The expansion was funded by the Cooper Family Foundation, parks revenues, private fund-raising efforts and the Cooper Trust Fund for Parks. Hood-Rich Architects and Engineers provided architectural services, and R.E. Smith Construction was the general contractor for the project.
The complex now has 12 indoor tennis courts, 16 outdoor courts and an outdoor stadium that seats 2,700.[[In-content Ad]]
