Paris shootout leaves police officer, gunman dead

An assault rifle wielding gunman on Thursday night killed a police officer on Champs-Elysees, Paris' most iconic boulevard.

The gunman was shot dead by police after he tried to flee on foot. Two other police officers and a bystander were injured.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.
