The French aren’t accepting Fox News’ apology.
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo told CNNMoney she intends to sue Fox News in the wake of the channel's coverage of supposed "no-go zones" for non-Muslims and lies about the country's Muslim population.
"When we're insulted, and when we've had an image, then I think we'll have to sue, I think we'll have to go to court, in order to have these words removed," Hidalgo told CNN's Christiane Amanpour. "The image of Paris has been prejudiced, and the honor of Paris has been prejudiced.”
“No-go zones" – where Islamic law supposedly supersedes local law and where non-Muslims fear to go – have been a theme for the network, and critics say the talk advances a frightening narrative that demeans peaceful Muslims.
CNNMoney reported yesterday that Fox News apologized multiple times on air over the weekend for having “no credible information to support the assertion there are specific areas in these countries that exclude individuals based solely on their religion."
Fox News also apologized for similar inaccurate comments about the United Kingdom. When British Prime Minister David Cameron heard the Fox News comment that Birmingham, England, is a "totally Muslim city where non-Muslims don't go in,” he told CNN, “Frankly, I choked on my porridge and I thought it must be April Fools' Day."
