Papa John’s Pizza's sales and earnings fell after it cut ties with the NFL.
The company's same-store sales in North America dropped 5.3 percent in the first quarter. Revenue fell 5 percent to $427.4 million, and net income was down 41 percent to $16.7 million.
The advertising relationship with the NFL ended after founder “Papa” John Schnatter blamed his company's weak revenue on the NFL’s “poor leadership” during a wave of player national anthem protests.
