Ordering at bakery chain Panera can be a hassle, according to the company’s CEO Ron Shaich, so he’s looking to implement a new system.
Shaich has compared the ordering and food pick-up system to a “mosh pit,” and it seems the confusion is a problem for the company. Last year, sales at established cafes increased 2.3 percent, which is down compared to 5.7 percent growth the year prior, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The Sunset Hills-based Panera announced it was overhauling its system, in part by allowing speedier pick-ups with online ordering and in-store touch screens. The full rollout is expected to take several years.
