Pandemic leaves India residents mired in debt

The coronavirus pandemic has devastated India’s economy, putting millions of residents in debt, according to The Associated Press.

Experts believe the situation will hinder an economic recovery.

“What we have is a patchwork quilt of incomplete public insurance and a poor public health system," said Vivek Dehejia, an economist who has studied public policy in India. "The pandemic has shown just how creaky and unsustainable these two things are."
