Pakistan's former president sentenced to death

Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan's former military leader and president, was sentenced to death for treason.

The charge is related to Musharraf's suspension of the constitution in 2007, a move designed to extend his tenure. He seized power in a military coup in 1999 and served as president 2001-08.

The 76-year-old Musharraf, who is currently in Dubai for medical treatment, earlier this month issued a video statement from his hospital bed, calling the case "baseless."
