Tell us about your company.

Working with computers in the 1980s, I found that running a business, keeping up with the changes in technology and planning for the future can be a monumental task. What I felt was needed was someone to turn to for advice that also could maintain and service the computer equipment and software. With this in mind, I returned to college and started Davis Computer Services. At this point I have personally worked on and/or with computers as a hobby and professionally for more than 20 years. My specialty for the past 10 years has been evaluating the needs of a business; researching and implementing a solution. We have designed, installed and continue to maintain a variety of networks, and also offer either custom-built computer systems to meet the specific needs or (we) can service and maintain most major brands.

Specifically, what do you do?

We offer a full range of computer services including: consulting working with a client to help them get the most out of their system; network design, installation, service and maintenance; custom computer systems designed to meet specific needs ranging from work stations to high-end systems; service and repair for most brands and types of computer equipment; and integrating Web solutions, such as assisting clients with Web site design, e-mail solutions and integrating Internet accessibility to broaden and expand their work flow.

How did you choose this career?

In the early 1980s when personal computers were just gaining (acceptance), I was fascinated with their capabilities. In 1991, I decided to return to college taking both computer science and computer information courses with a goal of starting my own business. I consider myself fortunate to have been able to make a living at something I truly enjoy.

What changes do you see ahead for the computer industry?

Businesses have to be able to offer more services and convenience to maintain and grow their clientele. What I am seeing in my clients is more and more integration between their work flow and the Internet. For some, simple e-mail is all they need. For others, complex solutions such as databases and forms on the Internet are needed to allow employees and clients access from virtually anywhere. I also see wireless solutions growing. The freedom to move around at the office or at home and still be connected is becoming an affordable solution for most businesses.

What challenges do you face in your work?

The biggest challenge is to continually stay abreast of the changes in the computer industry and evaluate how these changes can affordably benefit my clients.

Tell us about your family.

I have lived here in Springfield for the past 28 years. My wife, Debi, and I have four children three daughters and one son. Debi is a graduate of Vatterott College in Joplin with a degree in computers and works with me.

What are your spare-time interests?

I spend most of my spare time with my family or working on projects around our home. Other than that I enjoy playing games either on the Internet or over my network and tinkering with my cars. Of course, there are also our dogs Skippy, Nippy and Dotty who give us all love and entertainment.
