Tell us about your company.

Aztec Computer Outfitters was founded in 1995. We provide computers, networking and Web services to businesses, schools and homes. More specifically, we offer a full spectrum of products and services such as custom-built computer systems, networking, Web design and hosting, fiber installation, VPN and Intranet. It is our goal to help guide our clients out of the technology jungle.

What is your job?

As president, I manage the day-to-day operations of our business. But my single focus is to keep our customers thrilled and team members energized.

What attracted you to your career?

I have always been inspired by technology. However, I knew there was a better way to deliver that technology to the end user. We enjoy connecting people with technology in interesting ways.

What prepared you for your work?

I attended Southwest Missouri State University, majoring in computer information systems and spent several years as an applications programmer. Teachers like Stephen Covey, Zig Ziglar and John C. Maxwell also have inspired me. But I owe a lot to my parents for instilling me with an entrepreneurial spirit and practical business know-how.

What challenges do you face in your work?

Finding sufficient numbers of the right people to meet the challenges of our growing business. One of the challenges we face is the need to constantly evaluate new technologies and separate technical fact from marketing fiction.

What are some of the biggest issues in technology now?

As the economy lags across the country, businesses are looking for new ways to economize their Internet technology departments. We are able to help them achieve their goals by offering lower prices, and services that produce more efficient systems and processes.

Tell us about your family.

Carla, my wife, is a loan officer at Mid-Missouri Mortgage Company. I also have a 16-year-old daughter, Shanda, who attends New Covenant Academy.

If you could choose another career, what would it be and why?

I absolutely love what I do and the people I get to work with are great. I look forward to coming to work every day. Thanks to my pastor, Dr. John Marshall of Second Baptist Church, I do have an understanding of my personal, social and spiritual responsibility to others. If I were to choose another career, it would have to be in a field where I could more actively fulfill that responsibility.
