"We are a mortgage lender," King said. "We opened July 1, 1999. We're part of a holding company consisting of five affiliate banks, an insurance company and an investment firm." The company has 17 employees in two locations, 1405 E. Bradford Pkwy. and 3050 S. National Ave. in Springfield. "Our employees are the reason we've been successful for the last two years," King said. "We came into existence to serve southwest Missouri on the mortgage lending side. We offer all aspects and products on the mortgage side, conventional fixed rate and adjustable rate loans, government loans. We do USDA rural housing. We do the first-time home buyer Missouri Housing Development Commission loans. We do it all. including jumbo loans and non-conforming loans. We retain the servicing on some loans and also handle released, or brokered, loans. We are a Freddie Mac-approved servicer/seller through the secondary market. We also have a correspondent lending program set up where we price and buy loans from banks and credit unions. We're strictly residential. We're looking on our production side this year at doing $120 million."|ret||ret||tab|

King has a teaching degree in elementary education from Western Kentucky University and taught two years in Kentucky elementary schools. "Then I worked at Central Mortgage Bancshares Inc. for 23 years," she said. "I went through bookkeeping, accounting, production, insurance, collections and foreclosures, and left as senior vice president in 1975." King then went to work at Boatmen's Bank as vice president, manager of the southwest Missouri territory. "We did very well," she said. "After a Nations merger and a Bank of America merger, I left in July 1999 to come here."|ret||ret||tab|

|bold_on|What's the best part of working in the mortgage lending business?|ret||ret||tab|

"People. I love people. In the years that I've been in this business, some of the same people I dealt with 15 or 20 years ago, I'm helping their children find homes," King said. "You go through good times and bad times. Our economy pretty much dictates the rates, but if you provide good customer service, the customer side takes care of itself," she added.|ret||ret||tab|

|bold_on|Can you tell us something about your personal life and family?|ret||ret||tab|

"I've been married for almost six years to Robert King, who is a cardiology manager for DuPont Pharmaceuticals," King said. "I have one daughter from my first marriage, Robin, who is a pharmaceutical rep in Las Vegas. I have three stepchildren, Kim, Rob, and Ryan, and three grandchildren by the stepchildren. I'm a golfer. I'm in the Ladies Golf League and the Couples Golf League at Highland Springs. My golf game is sometimes good and sometimes not. If I had more time, if business wasn't as good, I could play." |ret||ret||tab|
