General and colorectal surgeon, Ferrell-Duncan Clinic, 1001 E. Primrose. Founded in 1946, Ferrell-Duncan is southwest Missouri's largest physician-owned multispecialty clinic with 90 physicians. Cox began a service agreement with Ferrell-Duncan in 1994 in which Cox now owns the building and employs all of its non-physician employees. Dominguez began his practice at Ferrell-Duncan in 1995 after completing his medical training. He is a member of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, the Mayo Alumni Association and the Springfield Ostomy Association.

No. of years in Springfield/area: Dominguez grew up in Springfield, left for college and medical school, then returned in 1995 to practice.

Education: Dominguez graduated from Kickapoo High School in 1983, then went on to receive his bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He then moved to Chicago for an internship and residency in general surgery at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center. Dominguez next moved to Rochester, Minn., to become a fellow at the Mayo Clinic. He is the only fellowship-trained, board-certified colorectal surgeon in southwest Missouri.

Early career: Dominguez worked as a busboy in a restaurant and mowed lawns in high school. He entered the Army in 1988 and is a major in the Army Reserve 313th Hospital Unit.

Current projects: Dominguez is working in conjunction with the American Cancer Society and Cox Health Systems to raise awareness about colon and rectal cancer.

Management or work philosophy: "The role of the physician is to help the patient and family members through frequently complex situations to achieve the best possible results."

Spare-time pursuits: Dominguez's hobbies include scuba diving, fishing, hunting and golf.

Family data: Dominguez has been married for 11 years to Jill (Keltner) Dominguez, also a native of Springfield. Their three children are Amanda, 9, Dean, 6 and Eric, 3.
