Broker manager, Murney Associates, Realtors, 1625 E. Primrose, Ste. B, Springfield. Murney Associates, Realtors, a real estate brokerage company, opened July 28, 1997, provides residential, commercial and auction real estate services in the Springfield area. "I believe the customer comes first. We at Murney Associates are dedicated to providing the best real estate service we can. Because we are a locally owned and operated company, we can more fully understand the needs of our clients as well as the agents who affiliate with us," Hillme said. Murney has 92 sales associates and a staff of eight full-time employees. Hillme is an accredited buyer's repre-sentative, and is affiliated with the Springfield Home Builders Association and the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

Age: 47.

No. of years in Springfield/area: Hillme attended Southwest Missouri State University in the early 1970s and moved back to Springfield in 1985.

Education: Bachelor of science in business administration and accounting from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Early career: Hillme got her first full-time job at the Richland Mirror, a small weekly newspaper in southwest Missouri. "I did everything from setting type to darkroom and attending city council meetings. I was involved in all sides of the operation of a small business. Probably the biggest thing I learned while working at the newspaper was jumping from one task to another immediately," Hillme said. She then went to work for the Illinois Press Association in Springfield, Ill., as an assistant to the administrator. "I did a little bit of everything, but my biggest challenge was setting up a 'clip' service and getting it running smoothly. I also planned the association seminars and conventions. The coordination was usually fun," Hillme said. In 1978, Hillme moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and worked for Executive Realty as the office manager. "This was the beginning of my association with Realtors and getting to know the business," Hillme said. In 1985,

Hillme moved to Springfield and worked about a year in the accounting department at Noble Communications before becoming an examiner at the Missouri Real Estate Commission. "I audited real estate firms from all over Missouri, but the last few years I concentrated on large firms in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas," Hillme said. She worked for the commission until she decided she'd had enough travel and accepted a job with Carol Jones, Realtors, where she worked until July 1997.

Current projects: "Murney Associates' growth has been beyond my expectations, so my current project is more desk space for agents. At this time, I'm not sure what form our expansion will take, but I am sure it will be fun and a challenge," Hillme said.

Management philosophy: "Try to be open and fair. Obviously the company is progressive, and I am willing to listen to the needs of our agents," Hillme said.

Spare-time pursuits: "I read about anything I can get my hands on," Hillme said, and she also enjoys working in the yard with her flower beds and roses.

Family data: She and her husband, Dwayne, went to high school together. "We've been married for almost 20 years and still like each other," Hillme said. Dwayne is a photographer and account executive with MWM Dexter.
