Planner, The Larkin Group, 777 E. Battlefield, Ste. 101B, Springfield. The Larkin Group, which changed its name from Larkin Associates Jan. 1, is a multi-disciplinary consulting engineering and surveying company. The Springfield office has been open for five years; its parent company is in Kansas City. The company also has two locations in New Mexico and one in Russellville, Ark. Bowen joined Larkin about five years ago when Larkin purchased Phillips Engineering and Surveying, the company Bowen was working for in Republic, and moved the office to Springfield.La Bowen is a member of the American Planners Association and served on the Vision 20/20 Growth and Development task force.

Age: 30.

No. of years in Springfield/area: Eight.

Education: Graduated from Fox High School in Arnold in 1986, then from Northwest Missouri State University in 1990. He attended Southwest Missouri State University from 1990 until 1992, pursuing a master's degree in resource planning.

Early career: His first job was as a trainer and manager at the Key West Gym in his hometown, and he later worked in construction during college. He began his college work at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and then transferred to Northwest Missouri State University, where he was a mapping supervisor. While pursuing his master's degree at SMSU, he was an intern, working at several levels of government. He then joined Phillips Engineering in Republic and Larkin purchased the company.

Current projects: The big project for Bowen and Larkin is the Civic Park design. The company is the local liaison for LMN Architects, the project's designer. "This is an incredible opportunity for the company to be involved in something that will be everlasting, and something Springfield may never see the likes of again," Bowen said. The company is working on the engineering and surveying aspects of the project, in addition to assisting with its design. Larkin is also a local touchstone for LMN. "A long-term project like this provides great opportunities for the next generation," Bowen said.

Management philosophy: "I believe in positive motivation rather than negative criticism. I also like for a company to foster a teamwork environment because that helps create a cohesive workplace, a workplace people enjoy working in," Bowen said.

Spare-time pursuits: Working out, walking, fishing, hunting. Is an avid outdoorsman and touts bass fishing as his favorite outdoor activity.

Family data: Married to Regina for five years. They have a daughter, Kealie, who is 2.
