Ozarks Literacy Council has hired a new executive director following the October exit of its seven-year leader.
Lori Beeson has been tapped to lead the Springfield-based nonprofit, according to a news release. She succeeds Amy Jardell, who cited plans for "the next chapter of my career" in exiting Oct. 17.
"I’m honored to join OLC as executive director and to help advance its vital mission of unlocking the power of literacy for every willing learner," Beeson said in the release. "I look forward to working alongside the dedicated staff, volunteers and community partners to build on the strong foundation already in place to continue strengthening our community."
Beeson joins the organization from Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland, where she has worked 17 years, most recently as vice president of operations and mission support, according to her LinkedIn profile.
“Her nonprofit experience and proven leadership skills make her an excellent fit for this role, and I’m confident she’ll bring the fresh perspective and energy we need after seven years of steady leadership," said Sunni Nutt, OLC board president, in the release. "As board president, I look forward to working alongside Lori to expand our mission’s reach and strengthen literacy throughout the Ozarks."
Ozarks Literacy Council has an operating budget of roughly $198,000, four employees and more than 200 volunteers, according to past reporting. The nonprofit has promoted literacy by providing free resources and services to southwest Missouri adults and children since 1968.
