Posted online

Ozarks Food Harvest this morning received an annual egg donation just ahead of Easter this weekend.

Neosho-based Opal Foods, a franchisee of Eggland’s Best, distributed 280,800 eggs to the Springfield nonprofit's headquarters at 2810 N. Cedarbrook Ave., according to a news release.

Ozarks Food Harvest officials say protein-rich eggs are among the most requested items from the nonprofit’s network of 270 hunger-relief partners. Today’s donation equates to 23,400 dozen.

With the latest donation, Opal Foods has delivered more than 3.8 million eggs to Ozarks Food Harvest since the organizations' partnership began in 2008, according to the release. The company last year donated 302,400 eggs, according to an Ozarks Food Harvest spokesperson.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Ozarks Food Harvest has hosted 115 mobile food pantries, bought an additional $3.6 million worth of food and distributed a record 22 million meals to its network since April 2020, according to the release.
