Ozarks Community Hospital has purchased the building that formerly housed Joe's Carpet at 1540 E. Evergreen St., with plans to open a clinic.

OCH Communications Manager Andrea Harp said the hospital bought the property in August from Kansas City-based Joe's Carpet with financing through Old Missouri Bank. She declined to disclose the purchase price. According to the Greene County assessor's website, the property's 2012 appraised value is $1.2 million.

The hospital is renovating the 24,800-square-foot building for Evergreen Clinic, which would initially house two offices - Advantage Therapy and the practice of orthopedic surgeon Dr. Edwin Roeder, who specializes in occupational injuries, among others. Harp said Roeder's practice had been located in the Orthopaedic Specialists of Springfield building, 1151 E. Montclair St.; OSS closed Aug. 31. She added that CMH's Advantage Therapy is still operating out of the Mercy-owned OSS building and will be working to move into the Evergreen Clinic by the end of the year.

Mary Sherrer will manage the Evergreen Clinic, which is estimated to open to patients by Jan. 1, 2013, Harp said.

Lenexa, Kan.-based Weber Carpet Inc., the parent company of Joe's Carpet, was founded by Mark Weber in 1977. Bob Bales, store manager for Weber Carpet in Lenexa, said via e-mail the Springfield location of Joe's Carpet was closed after Weber decided to consolidate its businesses due to the recession.
