Phillip Witt, principal of Ozark High School, will return to Crowder College in a new leadership role.
Witt will serve as vice president of academic affairs at the college based in Nevada. The post starts July 1.
“I’m honored to return to Crowder College and serve alongside such a dedicated faculty and staff,” he said, in a news release. “Crowder has a legacy of student success and community impact, and I look forward to building on that momentum by expanding opportunities that prepare students to thrive in our region and beyond.”
Witt spent six years as vice president for career and technical education at Crowder College before accepting the Ozark High School principal job in July 2024.
Phillip Dowden, communications director for Ozark School District, confirmed the unexpected exit has prompted the district to launch a search for the new high school principal.
In addition to time in Ozark and Crowder, Witt spent two years as an agricultural education teacher at Purdy High School, six years as director of the Nevada Regional Technical Center, and three years as a research assistant at Texas Tech University, while obtaining a doctorate.
Springfield Business Journal has requested Witt’s current pay in Ozark. Cindy Brown, director of public information at Crowder, said Witt’s incoming salary will not be available until it is finalized by the Board of Trustees.
“The experience Dr. Witt brings to Crowder will be critical as we implement our next strategic plan. He will further Crowder’s commitment to our mission and vision, ensuring we continue to adapt to serve the education and workforce needs of our region,” said Crowder College President Chett Daniel, in a release. “His connections to this area and experience as an innovative education leader will ensure Crowder College remains a leader in post-secondary education in the four-state area.”
