Trail advocacy nonprofit Ozark Greenways Inc. has installed a new executive director following a short-lived appointment to succeed seven-year leader Mary Kromrey.
Ben Tegeler, who most recently served as a senior planner with the city of Springfield's Department of Economic Vitality, started in his new role on March 18, said John Montgomery, Frisco Highline Trail manager with Ozark Greenways. Tegeler said he worked at the city for more than five years through March 5.
“Trails are essential infrastructure that connect people to nature, each other and the places they want to go,” Tegeler said in a news release. “Ozark Greenways represents a vision for a healthier, more connected and regenerative future. I’m excited to work alongside the board, our partners and the community to expand access to nature and build a trail network that enhances the quality of life for everyone in the region."
Tegeler brings experience working on the city's Forward SGF comprehensive plan, along with grant writing, community planning and ecological design. With his family, he's an avid bicyclist, hiker and outdoor enthusiast, Ozark Greenways officials say.
“Ben’s leadership, vision and experience will be key to helping us achieve our ambitious goals," said Danny Perches, Ozark Greenways board president, in the release.
The 1991-founded Ozark Greenways has developed more than 110 miles of trails.
The nonprofit was led until mid-2024 by Kromrey, who left for a job with engineering firm Own Inc. She was succeeded briefly by Ric Ashe, who resigned shortly after taking the job this year, according to past reporting.
