Ozark begins organizing first farmers’ market

Posted online
The Ozark Main Street Program is laying the groundwork for the city’s first organized farmers’ market, tentatively set to debut April 5.

The organization on Tuesday held an exploratory meeting that drew interest from nine growers, some of whom know others interested in participating in the market.

As a result, plans are to start the Ozark Square Farmers’ Market, which would run every Thursday evening between April and October, according to Robert Snook, executive director of the Ozark Main Street Program. It would take place on the west side of the town’s square and coincide with bluegrass music performed there on Thursdays.

“It could be complimentary to what we want to do – a theme of preservation, of maintaining the use of the center part of our city as a social gathering, as well as a place for business,” Snook said of the market.

Market items might include vegetables, honey, cut flowers and bulbs, meat products, shrubbery and baked goods, Snook said.

A second meeting to organize the market is tentatively scheduled for March 13.

Anyone from Christian and neighboring counties may participate in the market. For more information, contact Snook at (417) 582-6246.[[In-content Ad]]
