Ozark antiques exec enters guilty plea for tax evasion

Posted online
The president of Ozark companies Spring Creek Antiques Inc. and Riverview Antique Center Inc. pleaded guilty this month to tax evasion.

Kerry May pleaded guilty Oct. 3 to failing to pay the Internal Revenue Service withheld employee taxes, according to court documents provided by IRS-Criminal Investigation spokesman John Nunez.

Comprising employment tax returns 2003-09, May admitted to causing a total tax loss to the IRS of $373,201.

Spring Creek has employed an average 25 employees, and Riverview has employed, on average, 10 employees. As president of the corporations, May filed delinquent tax returns.

May, who stated during his initial interview the tax violations were due to procrastination, was found to be properly trained to understand his duty to truthfully account for and pay withheld employee taxes. May graduated from Missouri State University in 1987 with a bachelor's in accounting, was a senior tax adviser with H&R Block and was an enrolled agent with the IRS, according to court records.

A sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled.[[In-content Ad]]
