Chattanooga, Tennessee-based CBL & Associates Properties plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy by Oct. 1.
CBL operates four St. Louis-area malls, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The company's website also shows properties in the Kansas City, Joplin and Cape Girardeau areas.
CBL officials indicated the company has negotiated a restructuring support agreement to eliminate some $900 million in debt.
