Outgoing AIG CEO given terminal cancer diagnosis

The CEO of American International Group says he is leaving the company earlier than expected because he's been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

According to CNNMoney, Robert Benmosche, 70, was told by doctors in May he only had nine to 12 months to live.

That led Benmosche to speed up his retirement plans - announced this spring - by the end of the year.

The company announced in June that Peter Hancock, who has led its property casualty unit, will take over as CEO Sept. 1.
