OTC rolls out $10 million in renovation, construction projects

Posted online
Ozarks Technical Community College announced its board of trustees has approved the use of $10 million in financing for renovations and construction projects.

The plan, which will roll out over two years, affects the Springfield and Lebanon campuses and includes construction of a new center in Hollister, according to an OTC news release.

The Springfield campus will gain 10 additional classrooms and three faculty offices on the west end of Information Commons West, a renovation project that will cost approximately $2 million. Wells & Scaletty LLC has been approved to design the project, complete the construction documents and oversee completion, Director of Public Relations and Communciations Joel Doepker said via-email.

Construction is scheduled to begin February 2011 and end August 2011, he said.

The classrooms will provide space for 2,400 students a day, which, officials say, is duly needed.

"This project demonstrates the need for space on the Springfield campus, and we are committed to use any space that is available," Vice President of Administrative Services Rob Rector said in the release.

About $3 million will be used for infill costs at the Lebanon campus, including 19 classrooms, parking lots and technical education facilities, according to the release.

In Hollister, approximately $5 million will be used to develop the Hollister Education Center. OTC has begun searching for a site, according to the release.

OTC's board approved in mid-June the plan to acquire $10 million in bonds for the projects, according to Springfield Business Journal coverage.
