The OTC Board of Trustees approved “Ozarks Technical Community College – Richwood Valley” as the name, after a presentation on the significance of the name by Richwood Valley Campus Administrator Steve Biermann.
Richwood Valley was a community that flourished in Christian County from the late 1800s to 1936. The campus location has been associated with education since then, as it was the site of the town’s schoolhouse.
Many families that settled in Richwood Valley remained in Christian County. Several descendents of those families attended the board meeting, including Missouri Rep. Jay Wasson, Christian County Presiding Commissioner John Grubaugh and John Whittington of John Whittington and Associates.
The new campus is scheduled to open early next year. It will accommodate the school’s growing enrollment and will hold about 2,000 students.
