The Ozarks Technical Community College Foundation yesterday received a $100,000 donation toward a student fund for emergency living expenses.
The donation to the Springfield school's fundraising arm comes in addition to an original $1 million gift of scholarships from the Lewis Family Foundation. A southwest Missouri resident, David Lewis died in 2009 and gifted his money to the school because he had no dependents. The latest gift funds student living expenses including transportation, food, utilities and personal care products, according to a news release.
“Many of us take basic needs for granted. By helping students pay for gas or groceries, the OTC Foundation can alleviate the pressures felt by students facing financial hardships," said Cliff Davis, vice chancellor and executive director of the OTC Foundation, in the release.
According to a
KY3 report, during the donation ceremony at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, the Lewis Family Foundation also committed scholarship funding to Drury University and C of O, as well as 362 acres of Taney County property to the Missouri Department of Conservation.
