“(Saturday courses) are designed primarily for someone who works part time or full time … or their family situation really doesn’t permit them to attend day classes or evening classes during the week, Monday through Friday,” said Randy Humphrey, OTC vice president for academic affairs.
“Those Saturday classes will have a longer, extended meeting time compared to classes that meet on multiple days during the week,” he added.
Among the courses offered on Saturday are those that go toward an Associate of Applied Science in business marketing.
“There’s a lot of demand (from) students who are working, but are seeking to complete a degree,” Humphrey said. “Business marketing is a very useful area for them. Some of our advisory committees, which are … potential employers, said ‘We have some employees that we think this would be very useful for.’”
In addition, OTC’s Saturday course lineup focuses on general education classes such as math, science, English and social science, which Humphrey said can be used for the transfer-oriented Associate of Arts, when students plan to complete four-year degrees at other schools.
“Whether it’s the cost of gas, a full-time job, kids at home or other obligations, there’s always something that makes furthering your education a struggle,” OTC President Hal Higdon said in a news release. “Providing flexible class schedules is a vital part of making a college education easily available for anyone who chooses to pursue it.”[[In-content Ad]]
