Convoy of Hope dispatched an assessment team Tuesday that today is working to evaluate the areas of greatest need. Through a corporate partner in California, the organization also is distributing four loads of Powerade, according to Public Relations Director Kristin Kubitschek.
The organization is working to enlist the help of additional corporate partners to speed relief supplies to the affected areas. Officials expect the need will be greater once the fires are contained and people begin to assess what they need.
Donations to Convoy’s effort are accepted at www.convoyofhope.org.
Meanwhile, the Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross is stepping up to help. Its emergency response vehicle with two volunteers left early this morning for California. A total of five people have been deployed, and several others are on standby, according to Public Relations and Financial Development Assistant Joann Moore.
The local Red Cross also has activated its Response Enterprise Network, which has call agents on the front lines. All calls are being taken by trained volunteers.
To donate or volunteer with the Red Cross, call (417) 832-9500.
