Organization reveals new operations structure

Posted online
Ken Coleman, former resident director of Boys & Girls Town of Missouri’s Springfield campus, is now vice president of the organization’s southwest Missouri region.
Boys & Girls Town of Missouri Executive Director Vince Hillyer has unveiled a new organizational structure designed to help the agency better meet the needs of Missouri children with behavioral and emotional problems.
According to a news release from the organization, under the new structure – announced at a statewide board meeting in March – the agency continues to operate under the Boys & Girls Town of Missouri umbrella, but it is divided into four geographical regions of service: central, eastern, south-central and southwest Missouri. Regional vice presidents, under Hillyer’s leadership, will oversee operations in each area.
The Springfield campus serves as the base of operations for the southwest Missouri region, which includes Springfield, Lebanon, Joplin and surrounding areas in Oklahoma and Arkansas.
In 2004, the Springfield campus of Boys & Girls Town – ranked as the Springfield area’s sixth-largest nonprofit organizations in SBJ’s 2005 Book of Lists – served more than 760 children and families, according to the release.
“Our goal is to develop innovative programs for the children and families in the regions we serve and to serve additional children and families,” Coleman said in the release.
The reorganization was necessitated by state and federal changes in funding for children’s services and an increase in therapeutic needs, Hillyer said.
“The new organizational structure will enhance our efficiency and maximize quality of care to ensure we continue to meet our promise to bring quality therapeutic services and new programs to children and families to change their lives,” he added. “By reorganizing, we are newly re-energized to develop additional innovative programs, to strengthen relationships with existing community partners and to form relationships with new partners. We are poised to begin a new era of care.”
Boys & Girls Town of Missouri was founded in 1949.
The organization provides treatment for troubled youth with a history of abuse, neglect, severe behavioral disorders and psychological problems through residential, outreach and family therapy programs.
Other Missouri campuses are in St. James, St. Louis and Columbia.
