O’Reilly Hospitality Management LLC is slated to break ground next month on a north-side Macadoodles and Tropical Smoothie Cafe.
Jessie Lannon, marketing manager for the hospitality company, said an opening date is scheduled this fall for the single building designed for two tenants at 3050 N. Kentwood Ave.
A June 7 groundbreaking ceremony would mark the start of development for the project on 5.8 acres CEO Tim O’Reilly owns just north of Interstate 44 and Glenstone Avenue. Springfield Building Development Services Director Chris Straw said the estimated cost of the project listed on its business filing is $2 million.
The company
last year opened a Macadoodles store in Republic. The Tropical Smoothie Cafe franchise would be O’Reilly Hospitality’s first.
“It looks like a really great concept. It seemed like a no-brainer to bring that on,” Lannon said. “It’s going to make that corner really great.”
The North Kentwood Avenue site previously housed a Budget Lodge. It was demolished in 2011, according to city of Springfield building permit records. It’s across the street from Grandview Village Apartments.
The Macadoodles would feature a full convenience store - a first for the franchise chain - as well as gas pumps, a drive-thru and Tesla Model S quick-charging station, she said.
The vacant lot is less than 2 miles north of O’Reilly Hospitality’s DoubleTree Hotel,
which is expanding to the tune of $3 million for a large banquet room.
