O’Reilly Hospitality Management LLC CEO Tim O’Reilly yesterday announced the company would build a hotel at the site of its upcoming north-side Macadoodles and Tropical Smoothie Cafe, according to people who attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the development.
Jessie Lannon, marketing manager for the hospitality company, confirmed a hotel is planned for 3050-80 N. Kentwood Ave., a 5.8-acre parcel owned by Tim O’Reilly where the groundbreaking was held. Lannon referred further questions to O’Reilly, who was unavailable for comment by deadline.
The vacant lot - which housed a Budget Lodge before a previous owner demolished it in 2011 - is less than 2 miles north of O’Reilly Hospitality’s DoubleTree Hotel, where a $3 million expansion project is
scheduled to wrap by year’s end.
O’Reilly Hospitality operates nine hotels, according to its
website.
The company plans to open the
north-side Macadoodles and Tropical Smoothie Cafe this fall. A single building for the two tenants is being constructed by general contractor Killian Construction Co. A city business filing puts the cost of the project at $2 million, according to Springfield Building Development Services Director Chris Straw.
Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce President Matt Morrow, who helped break ground on the development, said this morning the project is representative of growth in the area.
“It’s going to be a really exciting development,” he said. “I think it’s an indication of a lot of really good things to come to town.”
O’Reilly Hospitality also operates a Macadoodles store in Republic.
