O'Reilly Automotive makes headway in Fortune 500

O’Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY) move up nine spots on this year’s Fortune 500, ranking at No. 381.

Based on 2014 revenue of $7.2 billion, the Springfield-based auto parts retailer ranked sixth among the 10 Missouri companies on Fortune’s annual list of the country’s largest corporations. St. Louis-based Express Scripts topped Show-Me State companies and ranked 20th overall.

The Missouri companies on the Fortune 500 are:
  • Express Scripts, 20;
  • Emerson Electric, 120;
  • Centene, 186;
  • Monsanto, 197;
  • Reinsurance Group of America, 273;
  • O’Reilly Automotive, 381;
  • Peabody Energy, 398;
  • Jones Financial, 426;
  • Ameren, 438; and
  • Graybar Electric, 445.
Carthage-based manufacturer Leggett & Platt Inc. (NYSE: LEG) didn’t crack the top 500, but ranked No. 623 with 2014 revenue of $3.9 billion.  That’s up from No. 626 in 2014, according to the list.

The Fortune 500 was again led this year by Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE: WMT), followed by  Exxon Mobil (NYSE: XOM) and Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX).
