O'Reilly Auto jumps 12 spots on Fortune 500

O'Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY) moved up 12 spots on the 2013 Fortune 500 list, after ranking at No. 424 for the past two years.

Ranking No. 412 this year, O'Reilly was one of 10 Missouri companies on the list, but the only business in the Springfield area, according to Fortune magazine.

With $6.2 billion in 2012 revenues and $585.7 million in profits, the Springfield-based auto parts retailer ranks No. 8 among Missouri companies. Leading the state list is Express Scripts Holding Co., followed by Emerson Electric Co., Monsanto Co., Reinsurance Group of America Inc., Centene Corp., Peabody Energy Corp. and Ameren Corp. Graybar Electric Co. Inc. and Jones Financial Co. LLP round out the list. All other Missouri companies in the Fortune 500 operate headquarters in the St. Louis area.

On the national list, Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. reclaimed its No. 1 spot, pushing Exxon Mobil Corp. to second place, with Chevron Corp., Phillips 66 Co. and Berkshire Hathaway Inc. completing the Top 5.
