O'Reilly Auto holds spot on Fortune 500

For the second year in a row, O'Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY) ranked No. 424 on the Fortune 500. The Springfield auto parts dealer was the only company in the area to make the 2012 list, published in the May 21 issue of Fortune Magazine.

To earn its spot, O'Reilly posted 2011 revenues of $5.79 billion, a 7.2 percent increase from 2010. Its profits increased 21.1 percent to $508 million, according to Fortune.

The Fortune 500 list also pointed to O'Reilly's $5.5 billion in assets, $2.8 billion stockholders' equity and $11.1 billion market value.

As of 11:07 a.m., O'Reilly shares were trading at $102.22, compared to its 52-week range of $56.25 to $107.13.

O'Reilly also held its No. 8 ranking in Missouri, listed behind Express Scripts Holding, Emerson Electric, Monsanto, Reinsurance Group of America, Peabody Energy, Ameren and Charter Communications. Graybar Electric and Centene finished off the Top 10. All other Missouri companies in the Fortune 500 operate headquarters in the St. Louis area.

Exxon Mobil overtook Wal-Mart Stores for the No. 1 spot, while Chevron, ConocoPhillips and General Motors rounded out the Top 5.
