Oregon has become the first state to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine.
The measure is designed to divert people from jails in favor of treating possession as a citation and expanding access to treatment and recovery, The Guardian reports.
Oregon voters yesterday also legalized the therapeutic use of psychedelic mushrooms. It's the first state to do so.
