Ozarks Public Television will premiere “The Original Springfield Cardinals: A Look Back,” an original, locally produced feature documentary about the St. Louis Cardinals’ minor-league affiliate from 1931 to 1942, at 7 p.m. June 6.

The original Springfield Cardinals, playing at White City Park, produced such luminaries as Stan “The Man” Musial and player/broadcaster Joe Garagiola.

The documentary features interviews with former players and context from baseball historians, according to an OPT news release.

“The excitement surrounding the new Springfield Cardinals’ inaugural season provided the perfect occasion for remembering the original Springfield Cardinals,” said Arlen Diamond, OPT director of broadcast services, in the release.

“Interviews with local residents (and) historians and archive photographs remind us of the important role baseball played in the history of the Ozarks.”

Among the people interviewed for the documentary are: Jean Ferguson, daughter of Al Eckert, the owner of the original Springfield Cardinals; Joe Stacey, former minor league player with the Cardinals organization; Oscar Walterman, Springfield Cardinals player in 1941; Larue Savage, Knothole Gang member and batboy at White City Park; Rose Carolyn Brookman, daughter of Mike Ryba, Springfield Cardinals player/manager in 1934; and Martha Marlin, who attended one of the last Springfield Cardinals games at White City Park.
