Advance Auto Parts' shares have climbed this week on news the company is exploring a sale.
Bloomberg Gadfly columnist Gillian Tan writes Springfield-based O'Reilly Automotive Inc. (Nasdaq: ORLY) would be a natural fit.
If O'Reilly bought Advance, it would quickly add 5,200 stores its existing slate of around 4,500. It also would give O'Reilly more of a presence in Northeastern states.
Tan points to 2008, when O'Reilly bought CSK Auto and grew its store count by over 1,300.
