Opinion: A ransomware attack brought Atlanta to its knees — and no one seems to care

It's been over a week since Atlanta's City Hall was hit with a ransomware attack, so what have we learned?

To recap: City services have ground to a halt. Residents can’t pay for essential services like water. The city can’t collect revenue from parking fines. Police efficiency is dropping as reports are handwritten.

This is a big deal and city governments are slowly beginning to recognize it. According to SecuLore Solutions, there have been 184 attacks against public safety agencies in the last 24 months. And in 2017, the financial impact of ransomware attacks was $5 billion.

If only someone had $51,000 in bitcoin sitting around.
