Avery Blank, a contributor to Forbes, listed three things that leaders never do in networking introductions — and that you shouldn’t either.
1. Don’t say, “Hi, my name is …” Instead, walk up to the person and, while making eye contact and offering a handshake, state your name.
2. Hold back on talking too much about yourself right away. Get to know the other person. Ask questions. Listening keeps the other person curious.
3. Don’t tell the other person you’re looking for a job. Instead, share your goals. The key here is building relationships, not seeking a transaction.
